Using it safely
General good practice for a 3d printer. Your induction covers the specifics for the machine at our shed.
- ✓Mind the hot endThe nozzle and bed run hot. Let them cool before you reach in.
- ✓Keep airflow upSome filaments give off fumes. Run the bench with airflow through the room.
- ✓Do not leave long prints unwatchedCheck in on long jobs, and never leave overnight without a Duty Officer aware.
- ✓Use the shed slicer settingsStick to the profiles we've set unless someone shows you otherwise.
- ✓Clear the bed gentlyWait for it to cool, then ease parts off so you do not gouge the surface.
- ✓Unsure? Ask a Duty OfficerAlways better to ask. They're happy to help and there's no silly question.
Before you start
An induction is required
Before using the 3d printer for the first time, you'll do a short, friendly hands-on induction with an experienced member. We'll walk you through setup, safe operation and how to stop safely, at your own pace.
Book one with a Duty Officer on any open day, or call the shed on 03 5750 1120.
When it runs
